Gabe's

What can be said about Gabes that hasn't already been said? The place is legendary and has hosted many great bands in the past. Nirvana played there as you can witness yourself on DVD in their box set. There is a quite funny scene in which the band gets lost in Iowa. The Smashing Pumpkins cut their teeth there as well. I have personally heard countless, awesome indie bands at Gabe's over the past few years. In fact, Raw Mojo played our first Gig at Gabe's Oasis.

There was a while, under new ownership which Gabe's became known as The Picador. At the time the place maintained its cool factor but seemed to lose a bit of its mojo. A lot of locals would still refer to it as Gabe's no matter what the owners would call it. It would seem that new owners have grabbed up The Picador and are trying to regain that missing mojo. They brought the name back, only this time the venue is known simply as Gabe's, and gave the place a fresh coat of gloss.

On Saturday April 24, 2010 Raw Mojo will play Gabe's for the first time again. With us will be special guests The Roadless (Chicago rock) and Chew Toy (Macomb Rock). One interesting thing that brings this show together is that all three bands playing during the night each have multiple members that lived in Macomb IL for some time. Being that all three bands each have three people there will surely be some kind of magical trinity by the time the night is over.

If you have the chance to make it out to the show then you should do it. See the latest incarnation of a legendary venue for yourself as well as support live music. You'll be doing yourself a favor.
